Streamlining Web3 credentials: a community-based protocol The proposal put forth aims to tackle the challenge of verifying credentials in the digital realm through the development of a streamlined and trusted system. In the Web3 communities, credentials play a vital role as both social and professional indicators. The community-based attestation protocol, accompanied by a user-friendly zkApp, facilitates easy validation and issuance of credentials while ensuring transparency, privacy, and confidentiality. Unlike existing platforms that primarily focus on storing and issuing credentials without a reliable validation process, the proposed solution emphasizes the establishment of a trustworthy method for authenticating claimed credentials and associated data. The protocol aims to foster trust among community members, mitigate the risk of fraud, and establish a transparent, reliable, and efficient credential issuance process. With the continuous growth of Web3 ecosystems, the significance of credentials as a means of establishing social status and verifying professional qualifications is set to increase. However, the lack of a trusted and reliable system for verifying claims made by community members presents a significant challenge. Without such a system, there is a risk of fraudulent or invalid credentials being accepted, leading to a breakdown of trust within the community. The proposed solution caters to communities that issue certificates and credentials, offering a comprehensive and customizable attestation protocol. Members can act as validators, demonstrating their valuable contributions and earning rewards. Furthermore, the protocol can be applied to a range of use cases, including online courses, certifications, employment verification, professional accreditation, custom credentials, and reputation management. The solution establishes a solid and reliable process for validating claimed credentials. The community-based attestation protocol builds trust among members, reduces fraud risks, and ensures transparency and repeatability in the credential issuance process. Key features include social proof evaluation by selected community members, anonymous validators and auditors, random assignment of validators and auditors, secret voting, and self-auditing to detect and address any misconduct. To achieve the goals, the plan involves developing a user-friendly zkApp for community administrators, applicants, validators, and auditors. Additionally, a set of backend services known as Mediators will facilitate workflow coordination and payment processes. Initially, the focus will be on validating and issuing public credentials specific to Web3 communities, with future plans to expand to other types of credentials. The proposal aims to cater to the increasing market demand for credential protocols in the Web3 ecosystem by providing a comprehensive solution that prioritizes authenticity, community-based verification, efficiency, and self-auditing.
