Social entrepreneurs looking to improve their impact measurement often struggle with the lack of standardization, data quality, and transparency in social impact data. However, a solution exists in the form of decentralized protocols that enable communities to reach legitimate consensus on the value and validity of local social impact. By adopting this innovative approach, social entrepreneurs can effectively measure and demonstrate their impact, attract more funding, and make a greater difference in the world. Individuals are encouraged to join the quest for better social impact data today.
The problem at hand, as outlined in the white paper available at https://go.onewe.tech/white\_paper and the executive summary at https://go.onewe.tech/seed-jd, is that social entrepreneurs, among others known as Makers, collect and present various types of social impact data (SID) to showcase the effectiveness of their interventions and secure funding and support. This data can include quantitative information on the number of individuals reached or served by their interventions, such as access to education, healthcare, or clean water. Additionally, qualitative data capturing the experiences and perceptions of those impacted, environmental impact data, economic impact data, and social impact data are also collected.
However, the current state of SID faces several challenges. Firstly, there is a lack of standardization, with no universal reporting and assessment standard. As a result, Makers have to customize their SID for each supporting entity. Secondly, data quality and reliability pose significant concerns, as Makers may provide incomplete or misleading information, undermining the integrity of the data. Thirdly, the absence of regulations in the field of SID means that there are no penalties for those who provide false or misleading information.
Lastly, there is a lack of transparency in SID reporting, often excluding the community and making it difficult for supporters to comprehend the underlying data and evaluation methodologies used to assess impact.
This project was funded by the Mina Foundation’s, zkIgnite program Cohort 1.
